Experience iron age living
Herd Farm is home to three full-sized replica Iron Age roundhouses. This exciting setting is conducive to understanding and appreciating the challenges of prehistoric life and the knowledge, skills and ingenuity that were required to survive over 2,000 years ago in Britain.
Supporting the National Curriculum
Our workshop is carefully designed around the KS2 History programme of study:
• Changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age
• Understanding that knowledge of the past comes from a range of sources
• Exploring the lives of everyday people in prehistory
Your pupils will spend two hours in our replica roundhouse area, experiencing life from the Palaeolithic through to the Iron Age. Through experiential learning, they’ll discover how people lived, worked, and adapted as tools and technology developed.
Children will take part in interactive activities such as:
• 🏹 Deer hunting (role-play and problem-solving)
• 🎨 Cave painting (creative expression)
• 🌿 Willow weaving (wattling) (practical skills and teamwork)
• ⚒️ Tool handling (knowledge and understanding)
Prices: £330 per half day (1 Class) or £550 for full day (2 Classes).
